Ranking the 10 Best Games to Buy This Upcoming Fall/Winter Season
We’re in the last stretch of 2021, which seems a bit crazy honestly, but nonetheless we’re coming into the busiest time of the year for video games. If you’re perusing the interwebs to get some ideas of what to play over the holiday season or on upcoming cold and rainy days there’s no shortage of crazy adventures to jump into. There truly are some real bangers coming out over the next few months. In fact, there are 10 that really stand out above the rest. Let’s check ‘em out.
10 ) NHL 22 (Oct 15, 2021)
NHL 22 is looking to correct a couple missteps from last year’s iteration. In our NHL 21 review we stated that even though it played better than ever, it just didn’t feel as realistic as it should. And of course year after year Electronic Arts has been hounded about their uninspired in-game announcing. It seems they’ve switched it up a bit this year, at least that’s what it sounds like. Players should expect more realism that comes from overhauled movement and facial animations, better gameplay physics and even an augmented reality broadcast. Finally, NHL 22 is sounding a bit more reimagined, a little extra fresh, yet not unrealistic. It’s definitely looking like EA could pull off all the fans’ wildest dreams. It’s hard not to get excited about that!
9) Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (Oct 26, 2021)
After the very unexpected announcement during this year’s E3 these last few months have felt longer than usual as we wait for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy to arrive. I don’t know about you but I’m a huge fan of this particular band of misfits. In general of course, but especially in the realm of superheroes. Not much else to say really except that the graphics and gameplay we’ve seen recently is just another reason to get pumped about this release. Are you ready for the sweet sound of classic 80’s music coming from Star-Lord’s mixtape? I am.
8) Forza Horizon 5 (Nov 9, 2021)
Forza Horizon 5 comes as the fifth installment in the ‘Horizon’ series and it’s set to blow each of the last four out of the water. It’s hard to imagine that’s possible, especially after just how well Forza Horizon 4 did, yet here we are less than 2 months away from this next spectacular showing from Playground Games. We’ve gotten to see a massive list of 426 different cars so far and apparently that’s just the beginning. As if driving that many vehicles through a variety of insanely gorgeous terrain – jungles, deserts, canyons, ruins and even a snow-capped volcano – could ever be boring. I’ll see you all in the vibrant, living and breathing Mexico this November. Better start your engines.
7) Riders Republic (Oct 28, 2021)
Ubisoft are the creators and masterminds behind a variety of hugely popular games, like Tom Clancy and Assassin’s Creed franchises. And even the crazy open world winter sports game Steep. Riders Republic seems to be a reimagining of that latter popular title to bring five different extreme outdoor sports together into one game. This time it’s not limited to the snowy alps and gamers all around the world are going to be able to bike, ski and glide in an open-world created from the biggest national parks in the US. You want to take a bumpy ride down a mountain? You want to jump off a cliff and glide? Riders Republic has both and more. There’s no shortage of experiences and fun to be had here.
6) Back 4 Blood (Oct 12, 2021)
If you’ve been waiting to sink your teeth into a game that’s all blood and gore, Back 4 Blood is exactly what you want. Turtle Rock Studios, the devious minds behind the Left 4 Dead and Evolve franchises is back at it again with another murderous title. It shouldn’t be a surprise that this entire game is centered on a war against zombies AKA the Ridden. After all, who doesn’t love a great zombie-killing slugfest? There’s sure to be some blood and guts, as well as some pulse-racing and intense gameplay. We played the beta and it was all that and more. Grab a gun and start shootin’ those suckers on October 12th!
