The Hype Is Real- Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2023
2022 was a mixed year for video games. Although there were bangers such as God of War: Ragnarok, Elden Ring and Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West, there were a lot of misses as well. We can only remain hopeful that the titles in 2023 hit the target! Gamers around the world are looking forward to the release schedule for 2023 as many AAA and long-awaited titles are set to release in the upcoming calendar year. The following list includes ten of the most anticipated titles for 2023.
Please note that the highly anticipated games below have confirmed release dates in 2023. There are games such as Redfall and Starfield which are carded for 2023, but due to the nature of the industry and delays in development, those titles were excluded from the list.
10. One Piece Odyssey
Bandai Namco Entertainment is creating another massive RPG adventure in the expansive world of One Piece. Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew must embark on an adventure filled with turmoil, powerful enemies and encounters on an island due to the impact of a huge sea storm. Anime and Manga fans worldwide can experience the characters and world through a unique forum.
One Piece Odyssey is set to release on January 13th, 2023 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
9. Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty
In 184 AD, the Han Dynasty of China is about to collapse after years of prosperity. A nameless militia soldier must now fight for survival in a land filled with demons, deadly creatures and enemies. Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty will allow players to utilize a variety of weapons, spells and call upon Divine Beasts to assist in combat. As the game is developed by Team NINJA, the creators of NIOH, Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty might just be very challenging, but equally rewarding!
Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty will release on PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms on March 3rd, 2023.
8. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
The creators of the Batman: Arkham series have plotted their return, with a unique twist. In this action-adventure title, Amanda Waller’s infamous Suicide Squad, comprising the likes of Harley Quinn, Deadshot and King Shark, are given the unenvious task of taking down DC’s Greatest Super Heroes, the Justice League. Players will head to the open world city of Metropolis for a showdown DC’s greatest superheroes and super villains.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is set to launch on May 26th, 2023. The game suffered untimely delays over the past few years.
7. Forspoken
The iconic fighting series makes its eagerly anticipated return, six years after the release of its predecessor. Street Fighter 6 is Capcom’s latest instalment in the long-running franchise which creates a new era of fighting by turning the genre on its head. Fighters must rise to the challenge and become the Champion, punch by punch. With additions such as World Tour and Battle Hub, as well as new characters and other game modes, fight fans can expect a lot of fun from the upcoming release.
The game will be available June 2nd, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam.
6. Street Fighter VI

5. Diablo IV
Okay, we know Activision/Blizzard has been tanking their reputation in the community for some time, especially with the release of Diablo: Immortal. But, call it blind faith or borderline insanity, all hell breaking loose in Diablo IV might just be what the gaming world needs. The fight between heaven and hell rages on as the demonic world threatens to overtake the Sanctuary. Much like its predecessors, Diablo IV lets players grind hellacious dungeons and the open world for legendary loot as they fight for survival and become a squash their enemies. Although fans are hesitant about the game’s potential predatory microtransaction scheme, a fun gameplay loop might be worth it all!
Blizzard Entertainment has carded Diablo IV’s release for 6th June, 2023.
4. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Cal Kestis is now a powerful Jedi Knight who must now make tough decisions to save those around him as the Empire is preparing to strike again. Respawn Entertainment has introduced new lightsaber fighting styles, Force abilities and an even more expansive galaxy. Players can explore new planets filled with unique biomes, challenges and more. With an excellent predecessor that was positively hailed by the community, the force seems to be strong with this one.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 17th March, 2023.
3. Hogwarts Legacy
Although video gamers are no stranger to Harry Potter titles, Hogwarts Legacy feels a bit different. As an immersive, open-world single-player game, players as a student must take control of the action and create their own adventure in the wizarding world. From the game trailers and developer blogs thus far, it is clear that the developers are giving gamers the opportunity to write their own story. Wizards in Hogwarts have no limits. An expansive open world ranging from Hogsmeade to the Overland area allows for a ton of adventures and secrets to uncover.
Players will have the ability to enjoy Quidditch, learning spells, brewing potions, fighting goblins and trolls. They’ll explore a vast wizarding world. Who doesn’t want to explore Hogwarts in the 1800s?
Hogwarts Legacy is carded for release on February 10th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
2. Final Fantasy XVI
Legendary may not suffice to describe the Final Fantasy series and its progression over the past three decades. Square Enix finally announced the return of an eminent and celebrated franchise. The much-anticipated Final Fantasy XVI will hit the PlayStation 5 as a timed exclusive this year. In Vasilthea, tensions between the six nations have risen as the Blight begins to consume the land. Clive Rosfield, who witnessed the destruction of his kingdom, sets out on an adventure for revenge against the dark Eikon Ifrit. The Final Fantasy series consists of open world action RPG experiences. They feature exploration, combat and a well-written storyline and enchanting soundtrack.
The game will release on June 22nd, 2023.
1. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda returns in 2023, five years after the release of the Breath of the Wild. Well, need I say more? At Nintendo Direct earlier this year the company announced the return of the legendary franchise. Fans rejoiced. In Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players will enjoy the lands of Hyrule and be taken up to explore the skies! Unfortunately, besides its reveal trailer, Nintendo has been quite stingy with more details on the game. We’ll have to wait for some more information in early 2023.
