Modern Warfare III: Three Things I Love (and Hate) About The Campaign

The Things I Hate

The Ending

I am genuinely surprised Modern Warfare III’s campaign ended the way it did. I won’t give anything away but it felt like the story concluded abruptly, leaving us with more questions than answers. While it does set the stage for a sequel or some kind of DLC expansion, it didn’t provide the satisfying closure we expect from a campaign. A more natural conclusion and dare I say it “traditional” ending would have been appreciated. This felt like season two of “Winning Time”.

Not Enough Variety

While the “Open Combat Missions” offer a new dimension to the gameplay, the overall variety in mission types is lacking. Yes, there are moments where you operate a gunship or a scout drone, but the majority of the gameplay still revolves around shooting enemies. I get it, it’s Call of Duty, what did I expect? Yet, Call of Duty campaigns have previously offered a more diverse range of experiences, and I missed that in Modern Warfare III.

Zero Character Development

The game reintroduces familiar characters like Soap, Price, and Ghost, which should have been an opportunity for deeper character development. Unfortunately, it falls short in this aspect. I wanted to connect with these characters on a more personal level, but the campaign doesn’t invest much in their backgrounds or stories. More character development would have made the experience more emotionally engaging. Instead, I never really found myself caring for these characters, which is disappointing.
