Highlights from the 2025 Day of the Devs
For some people it’s Thanksgiving, for some it’s Halloween. But for me, the bi-annual Day of the Devs means we’re squarely in the holiday season. Plus, what could be a better gift than getting to preview some interesting and potentially amazing upcoming indie games? Here are just a few of the games that caught my eye.
Awaysis (Developer: 17-BIT)
Awaysis is a 1-4 player co-op dungeon crawler/brawler with a deep combat system, tons of loot, and bite-sized levels just perfect for a few spare minutes. What sets Awaysis apart is its incredible physics engine and how literally everything is subject to the laws of physics.
Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth (Developer: Hyper Games)
You might not know it, but Moomin is a beloved character from stories by Tove Jansson. Moomintroll is an adventure game with a very specific, haunting aesthetic that takes Moomin on a cold winter journey.
Rockbeasts (Developer: Lichthund)
Part economic/management sim and part music rhythm game, RockBeasts is also full of humor and sly parodies of the music biz. Looks to be a winner for fans of several genres.
Beastro (Developer: Timberline Studio)
While we’re on the subject of beasts, let’s look a look at Beastro. This is a cozy builder sim, but the focus is on growing crops and growing a thriving town-to-table restaurant.
Soundgrass (Developer: Soundgrass Studio)
Soundgrass is a hard-to-describe, kind of trippy game that creates its world and gameplay out of sounds. in terms of genre, it might be described as puzzle adventure in which the environment generates sound and music, which helps you solve puzzles and move forward.
Into the Fire (Developer: Starward Industries)
Into the Fire is an action/extraction game where your goal is to rescue survivors of a volcanic eruption that has engulfed the nearby town. There’s a bit of base building and crafting as you enlarge your arsenal of life-saving tools.
Dogpile (Developer: Studio Folly)
Looking at the game’s art you might wonder just what the heck Dogpile is all about. Turns out, it’s a roguelike deck builder with a whimsical art style and an attitude of fun. Best of all it has LOTS of adorable dogs. There’s a free demo on Steam right now.
Demon Tides (Developer: Fabraz)
Demon Tides is an action adventure and platformer game about exploring the nooks and crannies of a colorful kingdom and its many islands.
