Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival – Survive the Suffering With These Tips

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival Survival Guide

We dove headfirst into the brutality of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival with a mix of things to say about it. While it nails some aspects perfectly, there were other elements that we felt were lacking. Despite our thoughts, we imagine hordes of horror fanatics will be chomping at the bit to get into the world of Hellraiser. The experience isn’t a cakewalk, so we’ve got a handful of tips to guide you along the way.

Note: This guide contains some minor spoilers regarding weapons, techniques, and abilities you’ll learn throughout the game. We’ll do our best to avoid any story related spoilers. If you’re planning on going into Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival completely blind, it might be best to avoid this feature and only reference it if you run into challenges.

Tip 1 – Master the Evade Ability

On your controller, the Evade button is Right Bumper, and can be used by itself to Evade Backward, or in combination with pressing left or right on the Left Thumbstick to evade left or right. This technique is critical in Hellraiser: Revival when facing enemies that use melee attacks. Whenever an enemy attacks you, use the evade. This should give you the opening you need to strike. Rinse and repeat this cycle until the enemy is defeated. Health is at a premium in Hellraiser: Revival, so avoiding losing health is a huge key to success.

Tip 2 – Collect Everything

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is very much a survival horror experience. Part of that surviving involves the resources you pick up along the way. Coins and valuable trinkets will be your ticket to purchasing tools, recipes and weapon upgrades. Before you leave a room, make sure you look everywhere for any highlighted item that you can pick up. If you find coded lockers, look around for books, letters, paintings, graffiti – basically anything with writing – as they may hold clues to the codes. You’ll also want to take your time to master lock-picking as lockpicks are quite rare early on.

Tip 3 – Purchase the Medkit Recipe As Soon As Possible

Health is at a premium in Hellraiser: Revival. While you’ll eventually come across a powerful ability with the Genesis Configuration that can restore some health, it still won’t be enough when you get to some of the very difficult boss fights. With that in mind, as soon as you reach the game’s shop, purchase the Medkit Recipe. You’ll still need to find the needed materials to craft Medkits, but that’ll be far easier than trying to survive on low health.

Tip 4 – Focus on Pistol Upgrades

One of the cooler features with regards to weapons is the ability to upgrade them. This includes the pistol and shotgun. In our opinion, the best option is the focus your attention on upgrading the pistol. You’ll find upgrades throughout the levels and at the shop. Prioritizing your money on pistol upgrades (after purchasing that Medkit recipe) will be a huge help when you square off against the bosses.

Tip 5 – Master the Genesis Configuration

That wicked looking cube shaped puzzle box you’ve seen in everything Hellraiser before? That’s the Genesis Configuration. And you get to play with it. While we won’t give everything away, it is critical you master using once you get it. One example of this is the ability to banish enemies. After dropping an enemies health to a certain level, they’ll briefly flash blue. This is your queue to banish them, earning some much needed health back. The Genesis Configuration will also be able to be used offensively, picking up and hurling sharp objects at your enemies. Make use of this as much as possible to save gun ammo.

Tip 6 – Make Use of All the Save Slots

Hellraiser: Revival provides players with 10 or so save slots. Use them all. And get in the habit of cycling the oldest save out whenever you save your game. If you get stuck, particularly when you’re low on health or resources, it might be best to just pull up an earlier save file and re-do some sections. Maybe you’ll find some resources you missed the first time through. Or maybe you’ll be able to handle the enemies more efficiently, leaving yourself with more health. Either way, it’s better to start from a few saves back, rather than restart the entire game.

Utilizing these tips should give you the edge when it comes to playing Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival. The 10-12 hour campaign can become quite challenging, but with enough persistence and careful planning, you should be successful. Don’t panic when you die. Think about what caused the death and try something different, move in a different direction, approach enemies in a different way. You’ve got this. And if along the way you think of some helpful tips, be sure to leave a comment below or on social media to let us know.
