4. Battlefield V
If only I possessed the technical knowledge of Digital Foundry to describe this beast of graphical prowess. Little can be praised beyond the multitude of highly detailed textures in massive environments, gorgeous lighting, and level of realism in characters, vehicles, gunfire, and explosions. The weather system is also a nice touch. There’s no denying the Frostbite Engine shines brightest through the Battlefield franchise.
3. God of War
Kratos’ and Atreus’ journey to the highest peak in all the realms is one of the most beautiful this generation both graphically and narratively. The performances from each cast member are expertly brought to life through exceptional performance capture and animations. Each of the Nordic realms are visually diverse, enemies are enthralling, and combat animations are absolutely insane. In our review, we say that “It’s that proper blend of realism’ and pure fantasy.”
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar’s wild west prequel delivers in nearly every way, notably in the looks department. The world features an unparalleled level of detail and is inhabited by great looking characters, NPC’s, and wildlife. In our review, we mention that “If you’ve laid eyes on a single frame of the game, you’re aware of how graphically stunning it is. I’m a sucker for lighting, and it’s downright gorgeous in Red Dead 2. The beauty extends to the thousands of textures, the different ways blood seeps into surfaces, and over five hundred thousand unique animations.”
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man
Insomniac outdid themselves in every facet of Marvel’s Spider-Man. The many districts of New York are distinctly varied, animations are tremendous, and Spidey’s suits are unbelievably detailed. In addition to being one of the best games of the generation, Marvel’s Spider-Man swings above the rest as the best looking game of 2018.
