5 Things Star Wars: Battlefront II Owes Us

Defining Moments

If they are promising a bigger game with more heroes and serious storylines, there is definitely one thing they need to add: Defining Moments. The idea is that players recreate iconic scenes from the movies. Imagine the possibilities: 1V1 where Obi Wan must defeat Darth Maul after the death of Qui Gon Jinn, General Grevious vs Obi Wan, Yoda vs Count Dooku. We all love a good Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, or Dog Fight, but this is the kind of touch that we as fans deserve, bringing a rich experience to a rebooted series that so far is known for being drier than Tattooine.

Galactic Conquest

Possibly one of the greatest video game modes in the extensive history of Star Wars games, Galactic Conquest was yet another mode neglected by Battlefront, leaving those of us who lean towards single player gameplay left with a handful of maps at best. Galactic Conquest combines the glory of what a Battlefront game SHOULD be and mashes it together with Risk, forcing players to take turns conquering planets and managing your empire for total domination. It’s a phenomenal game mode whose absence left us scratching our heads.

Campaign Mode

Thankfully, DICE did make the very wise decision of showcasing the fact that yes, the latest Battlefront will actually have a storyline to follow. Cue the overzealous rejoicing as the Death Star explodes! This is, however, another moment of cautious optimism. Saying we will have a campaign mode could follow the same trope as many other multiplayer FPS titles where players are treated to a dozen nearly identical missions before being pushed into the fray. This promise of a Campaign mode is all well and good but this is going to need to be something spectacular.

We as a community of Gamers feel – albeit selfishly – that we are owed something for the bare-bones experience of 2015’s Battlefront. If one thing on this list lives up to what we truly deserve as a means of making amends for the hollowed out mask that was that game, it needs to be a rich and engaging Campaign mode.
