Before the extended beta wrapped up, we had a chance to dive in and figure out Tom Clancy’s The Division‘s core mechanics. We discovered that New York is a dog eat dog battleground and going in unprepared will set you up for a world of pain. There’s precautions one must take before stepping into the Dark Zone and even attempting missions are about being the utmost prepared. Luckily, for those who haven’t played the beta we devised a few survival tips so you can go into the game with an instilled sense of confidence.
1 – Level Up – “Well, Color Me Surprised!”
This really goes without saying but the more you level up, the more access you have to various skills, talents, and perks. Make sure you collect XP whenever you can; sometimes a civilian will approach you asking for aid, hand over a med-kit and they will provide XP along with a random gear drop.
After completing a mission you have the option to replay it, try playing a mission again on hard mode and it will award you with increased XP with a higher chance for rare items. You can visit Camp Hudson to find a group matchmaking stand if you’re in need of a squad, it’s your best shot at attempting hard mode because it has more legendary enemies with increased damage.
Any time you visit a new base try searching for situation boards to reveal side missions including virus research, hostage rescue, and assaults on your map. These are efficient ways to level up and it will give you the combat edge you need in the main campaign.
2 – Give Your Base Some Sweet, Sweet Lovin’
Want to live in a dump? Didn’t think so.
The Division allows you to upgrade your base of operations, unlocking additional skills and perks while giving the decor some much-needed attention. You’ll be able to upgrade a medical, tech and security wing. Completing side missions will give you supplies that can be used to upgrade different parts of your base. By upgrading the medical wing, you’ll unlock medical based skills and so on, if you make your character tech based, it makes sense to level up the tech wing to receive the corresponding bonuses. For the sake of the beta you only have access to a few upgrades in the medical wing.
