4 Amazing Features of the Skylanders Creator App
Skylanders kicked off the Interactive Toy or “Toys to Life” craze back in 2011 and the ultimate goal of developer Toys for Bob was to establish a bond between the toy and the player. Being able to teleport their favorite character from their hands to the TV screen was amazing and captured the imagination of Skylanders fans everywhere. Five years later, Toys for Bob is poised to release the newest iteration in the series: Skylanders Imaginators, which will give players the chance to create their own Skylanders and strengthen that connection they established with their fan base years ago. If you thought this new concept of customizable Skylanders was already enough, just wait until you see what Toys for Bob has in store!
Releasing alongside Skylanders Imaginators will be the all new Skylanders Creator App (available on all major Mobile devices for FREE), a nearly identical copy of Imaginators character creation screen. In the app, players will be able to select from any battle class, element, and unlocked part to custom build a Skylander using the same parts found in Imaginators. Logging in daily as well as at certain times of day will unlock new customization parts for building your Skylander, who can be shared through various social media to show off your creation. You might be thinking: “Well that sounds all well and good, but big deal, why should I invest my time into this?” Here are four mind-blowing features of the Skylanders Creator App:
The Transfer
Players will be able to transfer their creations from Imaginators to the app and either share them on social media or further edit them from there. A Skylander transferred to the Creator App with parts not yet unlocked on the app will automatically unlock them for future use and it is a great way to show off to your friends just how much fun you’re having with the game. What really makes transferring Skylanders amazing is that it does not require a cable, or wifi, or Bluetooth, or any other sort of link: Your Skylander will transfer to your phone by sound. Once selected, simply place your phone near a speaker and the game will convert every aspect of your Skylander to sound. It will emit an eerie song for a few moments and your creation will come to life on your phone. Players can even choose to record and upload these life-giving songs as blueprints for other players to try out their creations.
Skylander Pride
Once you are happy with your creation in the Creator App, players have the option of taking their Skylander and ordering a custom shirt (supplied by District Made Concert Tees) with their creation printed on the front. Shirt sizes come in both child and adult and the printing itself is very high quality with sharp details. I had an opportunity to look at these up close and they were beyond expectation. Characters are posed in creative ways with their name beneath to give them a unique feel. Not only will it be your own Skylander, it will be a shirt unique to you that no one else will have, and the fact they aren’t put into generic poses really gives them some personality. Time to Ante Up
As if the shirt wasn’t cool enough, the Creator App will also let you order your own specialized Imaginator Card. The size of regular cards and made of very high quality, it will feature a customized graphic of your Skylander in action, as well as your name, its name, its stats, element and battle class. These cards are also equipped with the RFID chip, making it a functional Skylander figure! While the design may be fixed, players will still be able to edit their creations saved to the card just like a Creation Crystal. To make it extra special, these cards will arrive by mail in a special envelope with a letter written by Eon thanking you for your service to the Skylands. At $14.99 this feels like a steal to me. The Power To Create Life
It has finally happened. The wishful murmurs between fans of the Skylanders series in secret is now a reality. Those who have truly come to love their Skylanders, through the Creator App, are able to order a fully colored 3D printed Skylander figure. Body shape, coloring, and equipment will all be to your exact specifications including relative scale, and the figure will be put into a distinctive pose. These 3D printed figures will be protected in a clear plastic casing for safety reasons and so certain unique poses seen on existing Skylanders may not be possible, but the figure will be entirely yours and yours alone. This too will feature an RFID chip in the base, allowing it to function as a Skylander and just like the card, the player can still edit it and make any changes they want at any time.
