10 Worlds We’d Love to See in Kingdom Hearts III

4. Ducktales

Woo woo! Sorry. It’s hard to contain how fun this would be. We all know that Duckburg is a fast-paced town where awesome things happen. It’s right there in the theme song! Diving into this section of Disney lore would be a rich treat, full of possibilities. Should the gang fight Magica de Spell? Team up with Darkwing? Compete with Flintheart Glomgold? Will there be a boss battle with the Beagle Boys? Most intriguingly of all, how will Donald get along with his Uncle Scrooge and his three nephews? Most worlds in Kingdom Hearts are treated as brand new places with brand new faces. It would be fascinating to arrive at a world where the residents already knew a member of the team.

3. Zootopia

Few recent movies have begged for an enormous open world than Zootopia. The titular city is full of fascinating neighborhoods and a colorful cast of characters that would be delightful to hang out with. Revisiting locations in the movie would be neat, but anything the game designers want to add is always just a train ride away. And unlike a lot of other movies on this list, Zootopia really functions first as a cop movie. Helping Nick Wilde and Judy Hops solve a mystery in the big animal city would be a fun distraction from bopping Heartless with a Keyblade.

2. Star Wars, Starkiller Base

A trip to the galaxy far, far away would be so fun, it’s really a no-brainer. But where to specifically? Tatooine is iconic. Part of me would love to see a Kingdom Hearts take on the Ewoks of Endor. The Death Star battle would obviously be the coolest possible level, perhaps with a diversion down on Yavin IV. But the thing is, Disney has been pushing their new characters hard, and seeing Rey and Finn in a silly anime video game would do loads to establish them as iconic heroes. Since Starkiller Base was basically just an echo of the Death Star battle, it would give Sora a chance to participate in the classic blow-up-the-giant-killer-thing Star Wars mission while teaming up with the Disney Star Wars characters. And yo, can you just imagine fighting Kylo Ren in the woods with a Keyblade/lightsaber? That’s the kind of stuff from terrible fanfics, and I want it more than anything.

1. Marvel, Wakanda, Thanos invasion

Kingdom Hearts is sort of the Avengers before the Avengers: a team of heroes teaming up to face down a foe no one of them could defeat alone, uniting the stories from across a huge pantheon of different movies and games. The genres don’t always work together, but that creates the sort of friction that makes the story interesting. So the ultimate expression of Kingdom Hearts would be a trip to the Marvel universe. But where to exactly? The most obvious choice seems to be the iconic Battle of New York from the end of the first Avengers movie, but Kingdom Hearts has always reveled in explorer stranger places than Manhattan. And what Marvel world is richer than Wakanda, a fantasy kingdom as wondrous as Arendelle? To make it properly epic, Sora, Donald, and Goofy could gather with the combined forces of Earth’s mightiest heroes and face down the armies of Thanos in the biggest Marvel battle ever- plus the Heartless. Now that would be a hell of a game.
