Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Most people should know this next game after it won the 2021 Game Award for Best Indie Game, right? And there’s a reason this action-adventure game won too. Kena: Bridge of Spirits follows Kena and her adorable friends, the Rot, as she helps those who have passed away move from the physical world to the spirit world. It’s both magical and charming and the character animations are smooth as butter. If this didn’t have you convinced, its 80% score on Metacritic should. It definitely deserves to be on your must-play list for PlayStation 5.

Death’s Door

Did anyone else visualize the atrocities of Hodor in Game of Thrones when they saw the title of this next game? Death’s Door. Just me? Okay. This is an action-adventure game that looks to have its players uncover the role of the Crows, the origin of the Doors and other unfathomable truths. And all while featuring simple but challenging combat, rewarding exploration and a minimalistic design. The characters are chock full of wit and each encounter with a boss will leave you wanting to face them all over again. On top of that the soundtrack is so well suited to this dark and humorous story you’re going to think you’ve been thrown into the game itself. Once you dive into this adventure you’ll understand why it’s received an incredible 88 on Metacritic.
