Top 5 Sony E3 2016 Press Conference Announcements

Sony E3 List Continued

2. Days Gone

When it was first announced with the teaser trailer, it didn’t seem like much. Just another apocalyptic event game. Personally, I thought it would simply be about a global event that knocked out power and people had to survive. That is, until the show ended with that live gameplay footage. I can’t say I’m a particularly big fan of zombie games, but this was taking the genre to a whole other level. We have seen games in the past with simple, generic looking hordes but nothing on such a terrifyingly gargantuan scale. The way they flood into the environment, leaping and crawling, running and clawing as they try to devour anything and everything with a pulse is overwhelming. Having interactive environments to help you try and stem the flow of the undead horde looks fantastically creative and direly important for survival. Days Gone is posed to have some serious explaining to do about the lives of those uncontaminated and how they manage to survive in a world with countless hordes of zombies nearby.

1. Virtual Reality

Maybe this one is cheating as the #1 pick, but Sony is poised to make some serious money on all of its Virtual Reality announcements. Not only has Sony listed the price of its VR headset ($399) but it has promised at least fifty games that will fully support VR by the end of the year. So why is VR #1 on the list? Because I’m including the VR capabilities of Star Wars Battlefront, Final Fantasy XV, Farpoint, and Resident Evil 7 which were all teased to the audience. These titles look incredible and it really feels like Sony is not only well prepared to cater to a variety of gaming preferences, but they are leading the pack with innovation and style. Each time we were told a game would be playable in VR the audience was collectively awed into a moment of appreciation, imaging what that truly meant for their gaming experience. As a whole, it was Virtual Reality that stole the show time and again throughout the event.
