A Dangerous Ocean Awaits in Nokai
Icelandic indie studio Pretty Potato Games is bringing its ocean survival adventure Nokai to Steam PvE Survival Crafting Fest, which runs from August 31 to September 7. Alongside its festival appearance, the game has also received a major update to its playable demo, giving players plenty of new content to check out.

Nokai combines survival crafting with the sense of adventure found in classic exploration-focused games. Inspired by titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the game puts a strong emphasis on exploration, resource gathering, crafting, combat, and uncovering the secrets of its world.
Players can team up with up to five friends and sail across a dangerous ocean while heading north. Their journey takes them to remote islands where they can establish temporary camps, collect resources, upgrade and maintain their ship, battle unusual creatures, and investigate a world that is gradually falling apart.
Unlike many survival games that focus on building a permanent base, Nokai makes the journey itself the centerpiece. Temporary camps give players a chance to recover, prepare, and gather what they need before heading back out to sea.
Hrafnkell “Keli” Þrastarson, the Founder of Pretty Potato Games, said, “I wanted to take the things I love about survival games and combine them with the feeling of going on an adventure. Games like Ocarina of Time made exploration feel like you were constantly discovering something new, and that’s something I really wanted to bring into a survival crafting game genre.”
Development began in 2021 with support from an innovation grant from Rannís. Nokai is currently in development for PC, with console versions planned for a later date. With the updated demo now available, the festival could be a good opportunity to see what you can expect from this charming title.
