The Last Caretaker Gets Bigger, Smoother and More Explorable
Channel37 has surprised The Last Caretaker players with Update 5.5: Deck Drop, the game’s seventh Early Access update. Available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store, the update adds new quests, memories, storage options, locations, and a long list of performance improvements based on player feedback.
Interestingly, Update 5.5 was never part of the original roadmap. With Update 6 already in development, the team found itself with another sizeable batch of content and improvements ready earlier than expected. Instead of making players wait, the team decided to release the work as a surprise update.

One of the biggest additions is an expanded storage system featuring 11 new container modules. These range from portable storage options to larger Bulk Battery, Petrol, and Diesel containers. Players can also uncover new memories and HoloMemories while taking on questlines such as MOSES Field Reserve Program and Memory for Aron.
Exploration has received some attention as well, with new Gyro Towers, Container Dispensers, an expanded Warehouse, and additional secrets scattered throughout the world. The update also improves vehicle handling, cameras, weather visibility, loading stutter, UI clarity, and overall world polish.
Alongside the new content, Channel37 has addressed numerous issues involving crashes, quests, crafting, rockets, cables, containers, locations, and progression.
The Last Caretaker is also currently 20% off through September 13 as part of Steam’s PvE Survival Crafting Fest 2026. With Update 6 still in development, Deck Drop gives players plenty of new reasons to return to the world while they wait for the next major update.
