Kinghold Demo Now Available on Steam Ahead of Its Launch in Q1 2027

The Battlefield Never Gives You a Break in Kinghold

Think you’re safe behind the castle walls? Think again. Kinghold, Barkitect’s fast-paced real-time wave-defense roguelite, is now playable through a demo on Steam, giving players a chance to step onto the battlefield ahead of its planned Q1 2027 full release.

What makes Kinghold stand out is that you don’t simply command the king from a safe distance: you are the king. Every 20 seconds, another enemy wave arrives, leaving you with only a short window to fight, gather resources, deploy your forces, and prepare for whatever comes next.

There’s an interesting catch, too: the king is also the spawn point. Units, buildings, and traps can only be deployed from wherever the king is currently standing. Need to build a defensive tower on the other side of the map? You’ll have to get there yourself. Castle under attack while you’re collecting resources? Time to turn around and fight your way back.

Fortunately, you won’t have to micromanage every soldier. Once deployed, troops fight autonomously, allowing you to concentrate on positioning, resource management, and your next big move.

Each run begins with a deck of up to five cards, while leveling up unlocks more options, and treasure chests provide powerful perks that can completely reshape your strategy. Whether you overwhelm enemies with numbers or build a smaller force of elite troops, adapting your approach is key to survival.

The ever-present 20-second timer ensures there’s rarely a moment to relax, with enemy waves, income, card refreshes, and other effects triggering at every interval.

Kinghold looks like it could turn every few seconds into a tense strategic decision, and the new demo is the perfect way to see if you can keep the kingdom standing.
