Gritty Pixel Art and Bullet-Hell Chaos Collide in BIRDCAGE
Fans of classic arcade shoot’em ups won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on BIRDCAGE. Developed by POLYGON BIRD and published worldwide by eastasiasoft, the intense vertical-scrolling shooter will launch digitally on September 23 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox on PC.
Additionally, the team also released a new gameplay trailer alongside the announcement. It gives players another look at the fast-paced action coming with the game. Physical editions for PS5 are also in the works and are expected to ship in March 2027. Pre-orders for the physical release are already available.
First showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2025, BIRDCAGE takes inspiration from classic ’90s arcade shooters while adding modern gameplay systems and a darker narrative. Players can switch between spread shots, focused attacks, and melee slashes to deal with waves of enemy ships. The game combines gritty pixel-art sprites with 2.5D environments and a retro-inspired soundtrack to create its distinctive atmosphere.
The campaign features six stages filled with bullet-hell action, challenging enemies, and screen-filling bosses. Players can also build kill chains, maintain their kill rate, and activate the rechargeable Hyperblade ability when things get particularly intense.
BIRDCAGE will launch digitally for $14.99/€14.99, with a limited-time 10% launch discount available on select platforms and regions.
With its arcade roots and modern twists, BIRDCAGE looks ready to deliver a hectic shooter experience for fans of the genre.
