The Next Major Step for Beard Go Underground
Indie developer PandaBee Studios has brought fresh attention to its upcoming title, Beards Go Underground, following its appearance at the Deutsche Indie Showcase, co-hosted by The Game Awards. Alongside the showcase, the studio has released a new major update that is now available for players to try immediately through its playtest.
This latest update expands the game in meaningful ways. Players can jump into a refreshed playtest build that introduces revamped enemy mechanics, new strategic card synergies, and the game’s first major boss encounter. It marks a significant step forward for the roguelite mining deckbuilder, offering a deeper and more dynamic gameplay experience.
Rather than focusing on traditional combat, Beards Go Underground centers on breaking through terrain and uncovering hidden riches. Players take control of the “Beards,” a group of greedy dwarves determined to reclaim their lost fortune. Armed with pickaxes, minecarts, and a generous supply of explosives, the game leans into chaotic and creative mining gameplay.
The update also adds early pieces of lore, giving players a glimpse into the mysterious world beneath the surface. According to PandaBee Studios CEO Julien Schillinger, the changes were heavily influenced by feedback from the initial playtest to improve both gameplay variety and overall enjoyment.
With its evolving mechanics and growing content, Beards Go Underground seems like a fresh addition to the genre. This update not only refines the core experience but also sets the stage for what’s to come. The game will be coming out on PC via Steam in Q4 2026, so make sure to keep an eye out.
