Swedish veteran game developer Jonathan Smårs has officially announced Starpath, an ambitious open-world survival crafting space sim heading to Steam. The game lets players build their own starship, either solo or with friends, and explore a seamless, procedurally generated universe.

Starpath blends multiple genres into one cohesive experience. It combines the depth of a space simulator, the systems of survival crafting, and the calm tone of a cozy game. Players can plot their routes, fire up their thrusters, and drift through space while approaching distant planets. As they travel, they gradually uncover deeper mysteries about the universe.

The game places strong emphasis on shipbuilding. Players can design and customize a fully functional spacecraft using a flexible building system. Every button serves a purpose, every system can be adjusted, and every screen provides meaningful interaction. The onboard terminal allows players to manage ship functions and even engage in small activities during long journeys.

Exploration goes beyond planets, as players can locate and investigate abandoned ships scattered across space. The game also highlights both the beauty and danger of space, capturing the feeling of weightlessness while exposing players to its harsh conditions.

Visually, Starpath embraces a gritty retro 3D style inspired by 1980s analog technology, drawing influence from Alien, Cowboy Bebop, and Interstellar. A non-linear narrative drives the experience, encouraging players to reflect on humanity’s place in the universe.

Overall, Starpath presents a fresh and engaging take on the space sim genre, combining creativity, exploration, and quiet moments into a unified experience.
