Become a Shinobi in Atomic Owl
Atomic Owl is set to make its console debut on May 20, bringing its fast-paced, retro-inspired action to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Published by the team behind Mr. Sleepy Man and The Dark Queen of Mortholme, this synthwave pixel art hack-and-slash platformer blends classic SNES-era design with modern roguelite elements. The game will launch at $12.99, alongside a 10% introductory discount.
Players take control of Hidalgo Bladewing, a sharp-tongued owl shinobi navigating a vibrant yet dangerous world. At his side is Mezameta, a shape-shifting sword with a personality of its own, capable of transforming into a whip, scythe, or hammer during combat. This dynamic weapon system adds variety and unpredictability to each encounter.
The journey unfolds across eight procedurally generated zones. Each location is full of neon-lit environments, crumbling temples, and hidden secrets waiting for you to uncover. A high-energy 90s-inspired synthwave soundtrack drives the action forward, giving every run a strong sense of momentum.
Combat remains at the core of the experience, rewarding quick reflexes and strategic decision-making. Players gather Wing Remnants from defeated enemies to unlock upgrades and unleash powerful abilities. This includes Void Crow and Spark Falcon, which prove essential against tougher foes like the Tengu.
The console release also introduces a new “No Roguelite” mode, along with enhanced audio and user experience improvements. All these features will offer more ways to enjoy the game.
With its stylish presentation and flexible gameplay options, Atomic Owl looks ready to carve out its place on consoles this May.
