A Haunting Journey Awaits in Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake
KOEI TECMO America and developer Team NINJA have announced that a playable demo for FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE will launch on March 5, 2026, ahead of the game’s full release later that month. The demo will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam.
Alongside the demo announcement, the team revealed new details about the remake and confirmed a special collaboration with SILENT HILL f, the upcoming Japan-set entry in Konami’s long-running horror franchise. A new trailer, released to celebrate Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, also debuted with music by acclaimed artist Tsuki Amano.
The remake reimagines the beloved Japanese horror classic with modern visuals and expanded content. Players once again follow twin sisters Mio and Mayu as they wander into a cursed, abandoned village haunted by restless spirits. Armed only with the Camera Obscura, a mysterious device capable of capturing and sealing ghosts, players must survive a chilling narrative driven by atmosphere and tension. This new version adds fresh gameplay elements, new locations, and additional side stories, as well as a brand-new ending accompanied by Tsuki Amano’s song “Utsushie.”
A newly introduced Photo Mode lets players capture eerie in-game moments using frames, stickers, and visual effects, encouraging creative expression and the chance to uncover unexpected supernatural details. The horror experience expands further with the SILENT HILL f collaboration, which will add themed costumes as free downloadable content at a later date.
FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE launches on March 12, 2026, with Japanese and English voiceovers and text support in multiple languages. Pre-orders and early purchase bonuses are available across both digital and physical editions.
