Become the Maiden of the Dark
TigerChainsaw Studios has launched the Kickstarter campaign for Maiden of the Dark today. It is a new retro-inspired action platformer built for the original Game Boy. Designed to capture the intensity and charm of handheld classics, the game offers a blend of high-speed combat, tight platforming, and atmospheric storytelling. It reminds us of other classic titles like Operation C and Return of the Ninja.
Maiden of the Dark takes players through ten treacherous stages that range from burning villages to towering peaks. Each level tests reflexes and precision, demanding quick thinking. Players will slash through enemies, avoid deadly traps, and face colossal bosses, all set to a heavy metal soundtrack that fuels the action.
The story unfolds in rural Japan, where a once peaceful village falls under the control of the brutal warlord Zankoku and his shoguns. With no hope left, the villagers summon the Maiden of the Dark, an ancient spirit whose strength exists only in the shadows. She has ten hours of night to fight back, destroy Zankoku’s army, and reclaim the land before sunrise.
Armed with a katana that cuts through both mortals and demons, the Maiden faces a deadly lineup of foes. This includes the armored strategist Yoroi, the clawed assassin Shiruku, and Zankoku himself. Along the way, she encounters Teixeira, a mysterious wanderer who offers a hidden reward tied to love and sacrifice. Blending fierce action with nostalgic visuals, the game promises a challenging and evocative journey through darkness, honor, and revenge.
