Fresh Out of Retirement
Everybody loves a redemption arc. Respawn is introducing a new character to Apex Legends, but he isn’t exactly “new”. August “Ballistic” Brinkman is an old man now, but he was once a celebrity in the Thunderdome Games in his youth. The new character trailer tells us why he is putting his gear back on.
We see Ballistic shambling around his mansion, all alone. He is haunted by the memories of his glory days, but also the shame of losing his wife and son to his own negligence and the bottle.
In a news headline, Ballistic remembers how he earned his fame in the Thunderdome Games, but became disgraced. Upon learning that his estranged son has now qualified for the Apex Games, he sets out to hopefully make things right. He busts into a Syndicate office building to bargain to keep his son out of the Games.
You usually only get one shot…but sometimes, opportunity comes twice in a lifetime. And August Brinkman doesn’t intend to miss. pic.twitter.com/LbmUEyujce

While the trailer is entirely cinematic, we do see some of Ballistic’s skills in action. He has a shock ability that appears to disrupt an enemy weapon. There also appears to be some crazy knockback on his guns. That is, if those features are present in the gameplay.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait that long to see him in-game. Apex Legends will be releasing a more comprehensive trailer for the upcoming season later this week. The Arsenal season will be beginning on May 9th.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
