Unexpected John Cena
2K Sports has made a genius move. Earlier today, 2K announced that WWE wrestler and actor John Cena would appear in last year’s golf game PGA Tour 2K23. He has appeared in upwards of 20 WWE video games in the past 20 years, but can now add a PGA game to his resume.
For the context of timing, we are two days away from news media’s nemesis, April 1st. We are probably in the clear for this being a prank, as 2K has also announced a release date for Cena’s inclusion in the game. That being said, developers also like to release official joke content to celebrate April Fools Day, which this very well may be.
Most wrestling fans and wrestling game fans will know that John Cena was the cover athlete for WWE 2K23, which launched a couple of weeks ago. Comic book and movie fans will also recognize Cena for portraying Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and HBO Max’s Peacemaker series.

In the promotional image released for PGA Tour 2K23, John Cena is wearing an polo shirt of contrasting red and blue. He also wears white pants. It could be a coincidence, but this outfit is remarkably similar to his costume in Peacemaker. I’m sure the developers knew what they were doing with this.
PGA Tour 2K23 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. John Cena will be playable starting on April 7th.
