Redfall Devs Say Game Will Be ‘More Expansive’

Redfall Will Be Bigger Than Other Arkane Games

Redfall devs just gave their community a deep dive video with more details about the upcoming co-op shooter. Its open world features is quite different from those of previous games from Arkane Studios.

The town of Redfall will be a truly contiguous and freely explorable space. Plus, it is also reportedly much larger than previous Arkane settings. “I think the Talos space station in Prey was five football fields and the size of Redfall is kind of ‘Hold my beer,’” said Art Director Karen Segars. “We definitely challenged the whole team with making something this big.”

You can traverse the place, go into mom ‘n’ pop grocery stores, apartments, get on the roof of buildings,” added Studio Director Harvey Smith. “We try to put in as many environmental storytelling scenes around as we possibly can and so it just feels very lived in.”

The Redfall deep dive video also provides further information about how character progression will work. Players will have four different characters to choose from. Each of these characters will have their own sets of abilities and skills. Unfortunately, devs did not specify how deep the differences are going to be. It also remains unclear how much interaction players can get from them.

As seen in the footage, each character comes with their own skill tree. Pursuing certain elements of that tree can positively impact the different play styles of the characters. “We have come up with a suite of really cool abilities and powers for players to choose from,” said Creative Director Ricardo Bare. “My Jacob might not be the same as your Jacob because I may choose to really drill down into the raven skill tree and max that out.”

Ultimately we hope that players will play single player if that is what they want,” Smith continued. “It will feel like an Arkane game but it is more expansive.”
