Taking On the Lands BetweenÂ
So, you’ve gotten on to Elden Ring, huh? Decided to take on an adventure in the Lands Between? You’re no soulslike veteran but you’ve played a video game or two, and difficult rumors aren’t enough to scare you. But now that you’re some ways into the game, you still find the bosses are proving too much for you.Â
Well have no fear. COGconnected is here with a list of the 5 best Elden Ring builds to help you take on any boss. Whether your thing is magic, big weapons, fast attacks, or something beyond, we probably have a build that interests you. Now, this goes without saying but these builds will probably contain some spoilers. So, if you’d rather continue your journey on your own you might wanna wait to read this. However, if you’re just wondering where you can get some kick-ass weapons and how to build your character around them, then carry on.Â
Some of the weapons included in the builds on this list aren’t the most accessible to early game characters. Yet, those of you going into NG+ will be happy to have them in your arsenal for the challenges to come. So, brave Tarnished if you have the flame of ambition, let’s step into the Lands Between and checkout some builds.Â
1. The Frost Warrior
Do you have a love of winter? Do you just have a strange desire to freeze everything in your general vicinity? Does this obsession with the cold cross over into Elden Ring? Good news. There’s a perfect build for you. See, Elden Ring has many types of status effects. None may be as underappreciated as the frostbite status effect.
Frostbite is a special status effect that can be applied to enemies with frequent attacks by a weapon with the equipped status effect. Once you apply it to an enemy they take a huge burst of damage. But that’s not all. In addition, for the duration of the frostbite effect, enemies also receive a debuff that increases all damage taken by 20%. See where we are going with this?Â
Though frost can be applied to a lot of weapons, there is one that is particularly great at it. Not to mention it comes with a built-in ash of war that is perfect for this build. Of course, this weapon is the Icerind Hatchet. Found in Liurnia of the Lakes temple district, this light axe not only causes frostbite build-up but comes with the ash of war: Hoarfrost Stomp.Â
The stomp is an impossibly powerful, spamable, frostbite afflicting AOE ash of war. Furthermore, it only costs 10FP. It inflicts over 100 frostbite per hit and can stagger weaker enemies. Against bosses you can spam it when safe, applying massive frostbite debuffs, and opening them up for attacks. A tip for making this combo even more effective is to equip the Shard of Alexander talisman that will increase your skill damage by 15%. Also, you’re going to want to level Dexterity, Endurance, and Intelligence for this build.
2. The Kamehame-comet Build
By far one of the most beautiful parts of Elden Ring combat, from a visual perspective, are the spells. Furthermore, there are few that can capture the power reflected by one of the most powerful spells in the game: Comet Azur. If you’re of the mind that you want to be the most powerful mage of the age, you need to have Comet Azur in your collection of spells.Â
Found in the Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir, Comet Azur is a massive blast of energy that can destroy the health bar of even the toughest bosses. Pairing it with a staff makes it that much more viable as a boss killer. However, with the amount of staffs in the game, which should you choose? Though many staffs will work with the build we will have to recommend none other than: Azur’s Glintstone Staff.Â
Despite increasing the FP cost of sorceries, this staff will allow you to cast spells at an increased speed, by 8%. Additionally, it raises your spellcasting dexterity. This is a good staff for any mage who is looking to keep enemies away from them by hurling a torrent of spells at them. Combo your Comet Azur with any spell that will stagger or stun lock the enemy and then blast them to smithereens with your comet. So, for this build you’re really going to want to level up your intelligence as Comet Azure requires a whopping 60 intelligence to use. Putting points into mind is also a necessity for spamming spells. Sadly Godfrey’s Icon talisman doesn’t work with Comet Azur. Instead we recommend the magic scorpion charm to raise your magic attack power.Â
Finally, of course, an important piece to add to this build is Azur’s Glintstone Crown. If you want to make your Comet Azur as powerful as possible throw this crown on. Increase your damage even more. And watch the fireworks.Â
3. The God-SlayerÂ
You’re a simple person. You see a big sword, you like. You want big damage. Nothing more. That’s where the God-Slayer’s Greatsword comes in. It has a DOT-damage ability, decent attack speed, and just looks awesome. The God-Slayer’s Greatsword is a great weapon for big-sword enthusiasts.Â
Found in the Divine Tower of Caelid this colossal greatsword is faster than most. Though it does less damage than other colossal weapons, it trades huge burst damage for speed and magical DOT. Its most important tool: The Queens Black Flame. Not only does the sword possess high attack speed (for a Greatsword, anyway) but many of it’s moves provide hyper-armor to ensure you don’t get staggered out of your attacks.Â
For this build, surprisingly, you’ll want to focus on dexterity and faith. However, putting points into strength and vigor will also help flesh the build out a little more. Equip yourself with warrior jar shard, or shard of Alexander talismans. These will make your Queens Black Flame skill deal even more damage to enemies. Additionally, throwing the Bull-Goat’s talisman will help raise your poise. With this build you will be slaying bosses in no time, burn them down and then swing in for the kill.
4. The Swarm of Arrows
Though it may not be as strong as other builds on this list, a lot of players love to be an archer. This build provides a fun way to play, maneuvering around bosses, looking for great moments to strike with relative safety. Let me introduce you to the Red Branch Shortbow. With a fast-firing moveset, you’ll drown your foes with status-afflicting arrows.Â
The unique thing about shortbows is that they allow you to fire jump-and-roll shots. Once you master these, you’ll be able to fire multiple arrows seemingly at the same time. Additionally, the Red Branch Shortbow comes with the barrage ash of war. Allowing players to fire many arrows into a foe.Â
Found in multiple locations, one being the Royal Capital, the Red Branch Shortbow allows players a quick yet effective ranged playstyle. However the best aspect of this weapon is how quickly you can apply status effect. Using blood arrows, or another kind of status, you can pepper bosses quickly doing large chunks of damage before they even get close. Additionally, the dodge shots allow you to fight pretty close and personally.Â
This build focuses on dexterity, strength, and endurance. Equipping the arrows sting talisman and Millicent’s Prosthesis could help you deal a lot of damage very quickly.Â
5. The Bleeding Edge
You all knew this was coming. Last, but certainly not least, is the Bleed Build. Though bleed is very effective on many weapons, perhaps the most effective is katanas. However, one katana is especially insane at applying bleed. Of course, this weapon is Rivers of Blood.Â
Found at the Church of Repose in the Mountaintops of the Giants, Rivers of Blood is an immensely powerful Katana. Coming with it’s signature ash of war, Corpse Piler, this weapon applies bleed damage like no other. A slightly ranged, huge damage ash of war, attack speed, and bleed damage make this weapon a threat to almost any boss. In fact it can even stagger Melania, Blade of Miquella. It shreds enemies and makes you feel powerful.Â
This build works very well with a dexterity and arcane focus. The bleed build up will scale off arcane and the damage will scale very well off of dexterity. Additionally, equipping the Lord of Blood’s Exultation talisman and the White Mask Helmet will increase your damage by a combined 30% whenever you trigger bleed. Become the boss with the River’s of Blood bleed build.Â
Have Fun
There you have it, five builds to help you conquer any boss as well as have a lot of fun. The Lands Between is dangerous so hopefully these builds will give you a hand. However, the best way to learn is by doing, so mastering the skills and weapons in these builds are sure to take a bit of time. However, once you do it should be smoother sailing. Good luck, brave Tarnished, and remember to have fun out there.Â
