A New Battlefield 2042 Title Is in the Works
Battlefield 2042 devs were initially confident that the game’s final product would be exactly what the gaming community has been looking for. Unfortunately, the game ultimately failed to deliver. According to multiple reports, devs internally refer to the project “as a miss.”
Despite Battlefield 2042’s poor numbers, a new title in the franchise is currently in the works. With that said, EA plans to bring the franchise back to positive light. Apparently, DICE has learned “valuable lessons” from the faulty release of Battlefield 2042.
“I think we will be reverting a lot of the changes we made in Battlefield 2042,” devs reportedly stated.
It remains unclear what these changes are going to be. However, fans are speculating that the insider cold be referring to the game’s 128-player count. Moreover, devs could also be changing the Specialists that got a lot of negative feedback since their introduction into the game. The upcoming title will reportedly have a modern, near-future setting.
The new Battlefield title is already in its pre-production phase. The team behind the new title initially planned to use Battlefield 2042 as its foundation, with Specialists becoming mercenaries. However, it is alleged that these plans have been scrapped. It would seem that devs are taking the upcoming title to a whole new direction.
According to the insider, fans will see these changes in the next game. The roles and abilities of the Specialists are reportedly going to have closer ties to traditional classes. This is something fans of the franchise have been clamoring for even before devs launched the game. Doing this will make players more invested into their characters.
These changes will take time to fully implement. Thankfully, a huge portion of DICE staff is focused on its development. Still, a dedicated team is still going to continue working on Battlefield 2042 and any future content.
