Netflix is Getting a Live-Action Mega Man Movie

Mega Man’s Next Adventure Finds a New Home

Announced years ago, news about the Mega Man movie has slowed to a crawl. Since then, fans have only been left waiting, wondering what’s been happening behind the scenes. Which characters will appear? Will it be any good? How will we be able to watch it? Despite the information drought, a recent maybe-accidental leak may have solved that last question.

Spotted by a Mega Man fan site, Supermarche (some people behind the project) mentions something funny on their website. If you want to look for yourself, follow this link and CTRL+F “Mega”. It’s plain as day.

Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing;

However, this information has yet to be officially released. No other source corroborates it. Netflix themselves are silent. To all official sources, the Mega Man movie is just an announced concept. But that? That’s pretty definitive.

Mega Man 11

The Mega Man Movie should feel right at home in Netflix’s library. The streaming service already has offering for Witcher, League of Legends, and Castlevania fans. And while “video game adaptations” haven’t historically had the best reputations, the tides do seem to be shifting. The Sonic movie, Detective Pikachu, and more have all legitimized video games as suitable for silver-screen translation. And given Mega Man’s rather loose and flexible narrative structure, it gives the film’s writers plenty of material to work with. Skepticism is understandable, but it’s not the only option anymore – and that’s just plain cool to see.

As for news on the movie itself, we have little but the usual platitudes. One of the directors expressed excitement about the project. “I think we’re going to have some big news about it soon.” they said. “I can’t say all that much right now, but it’s a project very near and dear to our hearts and we’re psyched.”
