Midnight Suns From XCOM 2 Devs Was Marvel’s Idea

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Willl Be Out March 2022

Marvel’s Midnight Suns used to only be a topic of rumours, but Publisher 2K Games has confirmed that the game will soon be making its way to next-gen consoles in March of 2022. Prior to E3, the game was only described as “XCOM with Marvel heroes,” and this recent announcement from Firaxis looks to fit that bill. The team behind Marvel’s Midnight Suns is led by Jake Solomon, who happens to be the genius mind behind XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2.

The big draw in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is that many of the heroes and antiheroes that will be showcased in the upcoming game have never worked together before in any previous Marvel storyline. There will be a total of 13 allied heroes taken from Runaways, X-Men, the Avengers, and more. Firaxis had already confirmed that Blade, Magik, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Nico Minoru, Doctor Strange, and Captain America will be among its playable characters.

Apparently, it was Marvel that approached Firaxis after the successful launch of XCOM 2. “When I had a call with the Marvel team, there was an executive vice president from Marvel on the call,” Solomon shared. “They had very specific feedback about that game’s notorious finale mission, and a bunch of people started chiming in. Right away, they understood the kind of games we make.”

Although the Marvel team were clearly huge fans of the XCOM titles, Solomon shared that “there are zero mechanics shared between XCOM and the Midnight Suns.” In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players have to play as the Hunter—a new character influenced by Marvel Comics. There will be more than 40 different superpowers that can be obtained across a wide spectrum of skills—from light such as with Captain America and Iron Man, and to dark, such as with Blade and Ghost Rider.
