Guess Who’s Back?
The BloodRayne series has been coming back from the dead in recent years, and the most recent title to be resurrected is BloodRayne: Betrayal. This stylish 2D action platformer was originally released back in 2011, but it’s getting a new coat of paint, full voice-acting with the series’ original cast reprising their roles, and a much-needed rebalanced difficulty in the form of BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites.
BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites brings back the series’ brutal hack and slash action–and adds high-resolution visuals, modern features, and options to tone the game’s notoriously demanding difficulty level down for players who don’t enjoy dying constantly. More importantly, it also shared a recent trailer that finally gives us a release date to look forward to. Save the date, BloodRayne fans!
In this one-minute-long video, protagonist Rayne is shown slicing, dicing, and all but dancing her way across a variety of levels filled with grotesque foes. These enemies range from walking skeletons and insectoid zombies to giant, jiggling masses of flesh, all which are made extra horrifying by a boost to 4k resolution.
The story follows Rayne as she sets out on her final mission for the Brimstone Society–a mission that will take her through fifteen challenging stages that serve as a distillation of the BloodRayne series’ greatest hits. She’ll be going after her vampiric father Kagan once again, doing what entire armies could not in the process.
The game’s focus on high-speed, high-octane action comes across loud and clear, as does Rayne’s calm and sultry voice-acting. Combined with the slick, anime-inspired visuals, BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites looks like a bloody good time.
Fans of the series should probably check this out, especially if they just got done playing through Terminal Cuts of the first two games. BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites is a very different beast from its predecessors, but it still delivers some great vampiric action, so what else can you ask for?
BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites will be available for PC on September 9th, 2021.
