There’s a right way and a wrong way to resurrect a beloved game. Blizzard, it seems, is trying both? Diablo II: Resurrected is taking several hard left turns when compared to Warcraft III: Reforged. One of which is save files! In a wild fluke, it looks like players’ original save files will work with the modernized release of the game!
This is all part of a concerted effort to fully preserve D2 as an essential piece of gaming history. The old version is being honored, as opposed to being replaced. Hence why you can drop your very first Diablo II save file into the new release. Just think of all the cherished memories you can drag screaming into the sunlight with this!
While franchise purists will absolutely love this, I’m a bit more reserved. Will my deep love for the original game be enough to propel me through another run? Or will the many missing features be felt too keenly to continue? I love Diablo II a whole lot, but I’ve grown used to a certain lifestyle, one that allows me to re-spec my skills without consequence. Thankfully my fears and hopes will be answered when Diablo II: Resurrected drops later this year.
