God of War is a Big Deal Right Now
Okay, so the series was always a sort of a big deal, but the 2018 reboot attracted players who’d never been interested in the original games. In a lot of ways, the reboot benefitted from its new focus on Norse Mythology, something fewer are familiar with than the originals take on Greek lore. With solid gameplay and a deeper and more emotional story than we’ve seen previously, let alone a massive sequel hook, it’s no wonder that fans were clamouring for a sequel long before God of War: Ragnarok was announced.
Ragnarok is a direct sequel to the following game, which ended with Kratos and Atreus inadvertently kickstarting Fimbulvetr – a three-year-long winter that precedes Ragnarok – which comes as a big surprise to the prophecy obsessed Norse Pantheon since not only is this a lot earlier than they expected, several prophesized survivors die along the way. Details are scarce, but one big question for a lot of people is whether or not the game will be a cross-generation release. Giving his two cents on a live stream earlier this week, God of War director, David Jaffe, who had no involvement in the latest game in the franchise, stated:
“Oh, I’m sure the next God of War will be PS4/PS5. Of course it will. I mean, Jim Ryan has pretty much said as much.”
Unfortunately, fans took his opinion as confirmation, something that didn’t go down well with Jaffe – who, again, had no direct involvement in the latest entry. As so many people do, he took to Twitter to clarify the situation. Strongly.

So, there we have it. If you thought that his earlier statement was confirmation that the latest game in the hit franchise will be available on the PS4, you should still be patient and wait for official confirmation. As Jaffe says, it’s not his place to reveal any official information. God of War may be his baby in a lot of ways but it’s his baby that’s grown up, had a career, and gone in a different direction – Jaffe can’t tell you where it is 24/7.
