Experience a New World of Horror This Halloween

Unsettling Retro Horror Will Haunt Halloween 2020

It’s been quite a while since we talked about World of Horror, the retro cosmic horror roguelite RPG from developer panstasz and publisher Ysbryd Games. Quite a few things have happened since then–all good things, or rather, horrific things. Last time, we described this game as “Lovecraft meets Junji Ito” and we stand by that description. Now the world is growing larger… and darker. Or, well, spookier. The game is still entirely in monochrome, after all. World of Horror‘s previous early access build already presents us with five playable characters, branching mystery-solving narratives, and countless ways to die, but Halloween 2020 brings with it a brand new update.

Today’s expansion adds:

  • More ghouls.
  • More ghosties.
  • More twists and endings to the mysteries.
  • New outfits for all playable characters.
  • General bug and balance fixes.

And, best of all, there will be a 13% discount during the Steam Halloween Sale 2020 (Oct. 29 – Nov. 2), so if you haven’t pounced on this bizarre horror offering yet, now is definitely the time. The nights are getting darker, the stars are right, and your wallet will thank you. World of Horror is amazingly effective for a 1bit game made by one guy messing around in MS Paint. Don’t rob yourself of this terrifying and old-school cosmic horror experience.

“The Old Gods have risen,” warns the press release, “creeping in from another dimension while otherworldly horrors begin their invasion of a quiet, seaside Japanese town. Uncover the truth across 11 mysteries infested with randomly generated encounters. Survive white-knuckle turn-based combat with creatures that defy belief. Practice dark rituals, scavenge for makeshift weapons, and fight to keep your health and sanity intact.”

If that sounds like a great way to spend this Halloween, dive right in. You may or may not be able to save this world, but either way, it will definitely consume you–er, immerse you. We were talking about game immersion, honest.

World of Horror

World of Horror is now in Steam early access and Xbox Game Pass for PC (Game Preview). The full release will come to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Steam for PC and Mac OS X in 2021.
