The Best Xbox Series X/S Games to Grab at Launch
It’s just about time for the next generation in gaming. Microsoft is set to launch a double-shot of next-gen with their premier Xbox Series X and their affordable Xbox Series S. Right out of the box, both consoles will be able to play all your Xbox One games, with the exception of Kinect-enabled games. You’ll also have access to an expansive list of Xbox 360 and original Xbox games via backward compatibility. In many cases, these older games will play better on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, so it’ll be a perfect opportunity to re-explore some modern classics. Of course, there’s no shortage of amazing new content to enjoy on your shiny new boxes. We’re going to provide a list of some of the best upcoming games that you’ll be able to enjoy.
We’ll start with some Xbox Series X/S exclusives, followed by some of the biggest 3rd party releases this holiday season, and finish off with a collection of current-gen games getting special next-gen updates. It’s worth noting that while most of these games should be available within the first month or two after the Xbox Series X and Series S are launched, delays happen, and if they do, we’ll be sure to let you know. Let’s get started.
Tetris Effect: Connected
Tetris Effect debuted on the PlayStation 4 in 2018, and we absolutely loved it. However, a new version, Tetris Effect: Connected, will be re-released, exclusively for the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, with brand-new local and online multiplayer modes. The game will also run at a silky smooth 60 frames per second. Tetris Effect: Connected will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
The beloved Yakuza franchise is back with the console-launch exclusive Yakuza: Like a Dragon. You will take on the role of Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking yakuza who will rise to the top of modern-day Japan’s criminal underworld. Available on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
Gears Tactics
Originally released earlier this year on PC, Gears Tactics will be available at launch for Xbox Series X/S gamers. Gears Tactics takes the beloved Gears of War franchise and adds a tactical, XCOM style, spin to combat. In Gears Tactics, you’ll take on the role of Gabe Diaz, the father of Gears 5 protagonist Kait Diaz. Gears Tactics will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
The Medium
Horror game lovers rejoice, a brand new spooky game from Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch) is on the way, exclusively for Xbox Series X/S. The Medium puts you in the role of a person able to live between two different worlds; the real world and the spirit world. You’ll travel between both worlds in pursuit of answers to a horrendous crime. The Medium will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Update: Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, The Medium will be delayed until January 2021.
The Falconeer
Take to the skies as you become The Falconeer, exclusively for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. You’ll engage in intense aerial battles in a vast open-world air combat game running at a smooth 60 frames per second.
