Who’s Up For a Round of Repulser Darts?
Disney Park’s Galaxy’s Edge is a Star Wars fan’s dream come true, a chance to walk around an immersive in-universe world that has all the danger and excitement of the Mos Eisley cantina. With the parks currently closed due to the pandemic, the timing is perfect for the upcoming VR experience – Tales from Galaxy’s Edge.
Releasing on November 19th exclusively for Facebook’s Occulus Quest and Occulus Quest 2, Tales from Galaxy’s Edge will allow players to enjoy a variety of adventures through the eyes of a droid repair technician who crashlands on Batuu after a run in with the Guavian Death Gang. This has always been the big draw of Star Wars expanded universe media, a chance to explore the fringes of the story that we get glimpses at in the films.
Black Spire Outpost will serve as a hub of sorts for players to start their adventures, with various Tales being told by the bartender Seezelslak taking you off into new stories. There will be opportunities to take things at your own pace, exploring Black Spire as you see fit, chatting to C3PO and R2D2, or playing a round of repulser darts.The Disney park already gave us a chance to build our own lightsabers, the Tales from Galaxy’s Edge VR experience takes this even further as the “tales” will offer up multiple different gameplay scenarios from lightsaber combat to blaster shootouts and droid repair.
The main storyline is set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, with the galaxy in turmoil (when isn’t it?) as the First Order expands their grip, and Black Spire Outpost is one of the few outer rim planets where the various rogues and scoundrels of the galaxy far, far away can do business. Tales from Galaxy’s Edge is not tied to this one time-frame, however, as different missions will take you into various parts of Star Wars history – with one standalone tale featuring the beloved Yoda, voiced by the inimitable Frank Oz.
A big part of the attraction of the Star Wars universe is the idea that there are all sorts of people just making a living while the Skywalkers and Palpatines do battle. Tales from Galaxy’s Edge looks like a great way to experience the weird and wonderful things happening at the edges of the galaxy – all in immersive VR.
