Future Club Looks To Start Things Fresh
While Lab Zero is no more, a newer, cooler studio is rising from its ashes. Future Club is the promising new studio being developed by former Lab Zero artists and designers. Hopefully this new venture provides a more stable, healthy work environment?
The studio is “a cooperatively structured independent game studio founded with the goal of creating games with handcrafted art and traditional 2D animation, engaging and responsive gameplay, and unique and memorable worlds.” It seems the damage done by Lab Zero’s old owner run quite deep. The team wants to do whatever they can to avoid repeating past mistakes.
CEO/Producer Francesca Esquenazi elaborated on this idea, stating that “We wanted to start fresh with a company structure that was worker owned and gave everyone a say in the future of our organization.” Can’t have one bad apple with controlling stock, after all. “Future Club is an employee-owned cooperative game development studio, established with the belief that strong teams are greater than the sum of their parts.” Designer Earl Gertwagen adds to this sentiment, noting that “A co-op structure […] gives us all an equal role in shaping our future as a company alongside the games we make.” Here’s hoping that Future Club’s success acts as blueprint for other studios to follow. Games are much more than one lunatic’s vision, after all.
