Skullgirls and Indivisible Devs Form New Studio

Future Club Looks To Start Things Fresh

While Lab Zero is no more, a newer, cooler studio is rising from its ashes. Future Club is the promising new studio being developed by former Lab Zero artists and designers. Hopefully this new venture provides a more stable, healthy work environment?

The studio is โ€œa cooperatively structured independent game studio founded with the goal of creating games with handcrafted art and traditional 2D animation, engaging and responsive gameplay, and unique and memorable worlds.โ€ It seems the damage done by Lab Zeroโ€™s old owner run quite deep. The team wants to do whatever they can to avoid repeating past mistakes.

CEO/Producer Francesca Esquenazi elaborated on this idea, stating that โ€œWe wanted to start fresh with a company structure that was worker owned and gave everyone a say in the future of our organization.โ€ Canโ€™t have one bad apple with controlling stock, after all. โ€œFuture Club is an employee-owned cooperative game development studio, established with the belief that strong teams are greater than the sum of their parts.โ€ Designer Earl Gertwagen adds to this sentiment, noting that โ€œA co-op structure [โ€ฆ] gives us all an equal role in shaping our future as a company alongside the games we make.โ€ Hereโ€™s hoping that Future Clubโ€™s success acts as blueprint for other studios to follow. Games are much more than one lunaticโ€™s vision, after all.
