April 2020 has come and gone, leaving a plethora of new releases in its wake. Looking back, April 2020 has had some of the best games of the year, as well as some of the worst. Instead of searching for yourselves, let’s take a look at the three best and worst games of April 2020.
The Best
Final Fantasy VII Remake

One of the most anticipated games of the year is easily the biggest and perhaps best game of April 2020. With its memorable characters returning to capture our attention over 20 years later, the Final Fantasy VII Remake features gorgeous visuals alongside a real-time combat system that translates surprisingly well. In our review, we noted that this is the “Final Fantasy VII you remember, the shining vision of your youth, untouched by the decays of time.”
XCOM: Chimera Squad

Humans and aliens come together in XCOM: Chimera Squad. As per usual, Firaxis Games does what it does with another solid XCOM title. In this game, players take control of a team comprised of both humans and aliens looking to keep the peace in a city in which humans and aliens live together. In our review, we concluded that the game is “trying something new, and it is very, very good.”
Resident Evil 3

After one remake comes another in the form of Resident Evil 3. While releasing without the fanfare that Resident Evil 2 did, Resident Evil 3 is arguably as good of a remake. Players are once again introduced to one of the most familiar names of the franchise, Jill Valentine, along with Carlos Oliveira (and his great hair) and franchise familiar Nemesis. In our review, we found that “while the game still stubbornly hangs on to a few of the original’s mechanical shortcomings, the vast majority of the package is a breathtaking recreation of material we fell in love with two decades ago.”
