Sega Teases Something New For Its 60th Birthday

Is That Segata Sanshiro???

Sega is celebrating its 60th birthday next week. This is a major milestone, which means they have to do something cool, right? At least, that’s what this teaser image suggests. Sega released said teaser earlier this week, leading to a healthy dose of speculation and curious possibility.

Sega 60th Birthday

Let’s break it down. There’s our boy Segata Sanshiro striking a fighting pose. There’s some text which roughly translates to “Six Days Until Birth.” There’s also some acknowledgment that we’re arriving at the 60th anniversary. And that’s pretty much it, really. Not a lot to go on, sure. But it’s enough to let us know that good things (of some sort) are on their way. But what could they be?

One possible answer is a new Virtua Fighter game. Or maybe we’ll get yet another mini console? Whatever success Sega found with the last one, it was an excellent machine, one that employed proper emulation and a pretty enviable selection of titles. Or we could be getting a mascot-friendly crossover title. Sanshiro was the face of Sega during the 90’s after all. Maybe this new project takes advantage of that. One thing’s for sure, we don’t have long to wait. This teaser was posted on the 19th, so we get our answers by Wednesday.
