Just A Prototype, But Still!
Anything as successful as the Nintendo Switch was bound to attract imitators. But what if that imitator happens to be Alienware? Dell unveiled a prototype for a portable Alienware gaming PC known as the Concept UFO at CES 2020. The resemblance to the Nintendo Switch is nothing short of uncanny.
Let’s work down the list: the concept UFO has detachable controllers, a near-identical button layout, and a kickstand. On the other hand, this bad boy is a prototype for a product in the very early stages of development. Perhaps if and when this device goes to market, it won’t look like a high-quality Switch clone with sweet glowing analog sticks?
One market prediction suggested that this bad boy could run anywhere from $500 to $1000 when it comes out. Given that the device is full of Alienware components, this doesn’t come at a huge surprise. One tiny obstacle is that all of these games would need a compatible launcher. This means the Concept UFO will either be loaded with launching software, or it will come part and parcel with yet another storefront service. If player reaction to the Epic Games Store is any indication, this might not go over so well. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if this ever like, becomes a real product in the future.
