Gotta Make Money to Spend Money
Apparently, developer Overkill and publisher Starbreeze are not done with Payday 2 just yet. This announcement was made by Starbreeze CEO Mikael Nermark on the game’s Steam page. He gives a little background on the financial troubles that Starbreeze has been facing over the last few years and cites this as part of the reason for making more Payday 2 DLC. The new DLC will be a mix of paid content and free content, which might irk some players who bought the “Ultimate” Edition that supposedly contained all DLC.
The announcement of new DLC comes with some changes to how players can buy it as well. The Ultimate Edition will be “retired” and immediately replaced by the Legacy Edition. The Legacy Edition will pretty much be the same as its predecessor, but with the caveat that more content is coming and will not be included. Basically, no matter what version of Payday 2 you buy/have bought, you will still have to pay for the new paid DLC. That being said, not all the new content will require additional payments.
Additionally, purchasing DLC á la carte will once again become an option. Now, you can pick and choose what content you want if not all of it appeals to you. It is unclear if the Xbox One and PS4 Crimewave Edition bundles will change at all, but console users can expect to pay for the same new DLC as the PC players. Meanwhile, Starbreeze still expects a new Payday game will be coming out in the next 4 to 5 years.
