Blitzchung Responds to His Recently Reduced Ban
After receiving a lot of online backlash for banning professional Hearthstone player Ng Wai “blitzchung” Chung from the 2019 Grandmasters competition for a pro-Hong Kong comment, Blizzard announced last Friday that Chung’s ban from Hearthstone esports events was reduced from one year to six months and his withdrawn Grandmasters winnings were returned.
Chung then responded to Blizzard’s decisions with a statement posted on TwitLonger on Saturday.
In his statement, Chung thanked Blizzard for returning his winnings but said that while he was “grateful” for Blizzard reducing his ban, a six month ban was “still quite a lot” for him. He also wished that Blizzard would “reconsider” the ban for the two broadcasters who were present when Chung made his Hong Kong comment.
Chung also said that he’d be “more careful” about how he speaks about Hong Kong from now on. “In the future, I will be more careful on that and express my opinions or show my support to Hong Kong on my personal platforms,” Chung said.
Chung also addressed whether he will keep playing Hearthstone professionally in the future. “Honestly, I have no idea on that yet,” he said. “Since my next tournament is very likely to be the Grandmaster tournament of next season, it’s probably at least a few months from now on. I will take this time to relax myself to decide if I am staying in competitive Hearthstone scene or not.”
