Bungie to Expand Their Repertoire to Become a “Multi-Franchise” Publisher by 2025
Bungie hasn’t strayed much from their ‘one game at a time’ approach to development and while it’s worked in the past, with both Halo and Destiny, it seems they’re looking to expand their horizons. In fact, after almost an entire decade on working on Destiny, the developer has announced that they’ve got some huge plans following their split from publisher Activision.
According to Bungie’s CEO Pete Parsons, they’ve got a great plan for the next five years. The team at Bungie is instead looking to branch out and diversify a little bit to become a multi-franchise entertainment company. Here’s what Parsons had to say, “Our vision ultimately through 2025 is to become one of the world’s best entertainment companies. One, is we need to begin transforming Destiny. The Destiny that we really believe in, like, the thing we think Destiny needs to become. […] The single evolving world, we need to focus on that. By 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace. We need to build our publishing group, but part of our vision is also to become a multi-franchise entertainment company.”
So as it turns out, Destiny isn’t the only game they’re looking to make in that time. That said, Bungie seems to have a pretty good idea what kind of franchises they’d like to build alongside the likes of Halo and Destiny. Pete Parsons stated, “I think the long-term vision of Bungie would be, we have worlds like Destiny that are great places to go and build friendships in. And we begin to introduce new worlds that people care a lot about.”
