Cyberpunk 2077 Set to Feature “Deep Narrative Experiences”
There’s no denying that people all around the world have some pretty high expectations when it comes to the upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077. Of course it doesn’t help matters when every little detail CD Projekt RED shares sounds even more intriguing. As it turns out, the game is going to be even more immersive, and the world will be “full of stories to explore.”
In a recent interview with GamesIndustry Marthe Jonkers, the concept art coordinator for Cyberpunk 2077, talked about how the narrative is what CDPR has put a ton of focus on. She says that despite the team having watched every Cyberpunk movie in existence, they are really focusing on the 80’s lore. “We know the whole canon of cyberpunk. But we still wanted to create something that was really fresh and new.”
So how then are they going to deliver such deep storytelling throughout? Jonkers explains, “[Every district] has this story of which people came to live there and why, and then we added this extra layer of their own visual language to it, to show you all the layers of history in this district. So in Pacifica, you will see a lot of art that’s really connected to the Voodoo Boys, the gang that’s in control there. And it’s really cool because when you drive around the city and you see these different art styles, you can actually recognize the type of people that lived there, or which gang is in charge there.”
Overall, the team at CDPR is really hoping that the stories are going to captivate the audience, even if some players are looking to hone in on the action of the game instead of the narrative. “Some players will probably maybe want to focus on the action, but at CD Projekt RED we are really about storytelling. That’s the thing we do. We like to tell stories, we like to tell very deep narrative experiences. And we often make open worlds, it’s just what we love to do, so we try to push that in this game.” She continued stating, “If you’re going to explore Night City, we’ll make sure that it’s full of stories for you to explore.”
