Deadpool 2 Hasn’t Finished Yet
Director David Leitch has confirmed that an extended cut for Deadpool 2 is in the works.
Spoilers for Deadpool 2 Below. You’ve been warned. (And if you haven’t seen it yet, go now. Literally now.)
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Leitch talked at length about what was cut from the film, and how some of the film’s funniest scenes came to be.
According to Leitch, after an 83 day shoot, the director and editors had “a lot of material” to work with. They were able to cut the film down to a two hour and twelve minute runtime for the director’s cut, and after expressing his enthusiasm with bringing the first cut to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and writer Rhett Rheese, he said ” I don’t think it needs to be bloated, and I’m not that type of filmmaker.” He also spoke of what to expect from the new extended cut, including a montage of Deadpool attempting suicide after the loss of Vanessa, an extra breakfast scene in the X-Mansion with Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and some “extra Domino stuff.”
Leitch expands a bit more on what to expect from the extended cut, but unfortunately, doesn’t give any information on whether or not it will find its way to theaters for a second release, or be delegated to a Blu-ray release like the Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past. That being said, Deadpool 2 did just dethrone Infinity War in the weekly box office, so it would be pretty silly of 20th Century Fox to not cash in on it.
If you’ve seen Deadpool 2, let us know what you think of it in the comments! If you haven’t, why did you read this far? Is nothing sacred?! I saw it opening night and thought the film to be an essential piece of modern comedic cinema along with its predecessor, and really highlights just how great Deadpool is when he’s breaking that fourth wall.
