Platinum Games May Be Returning for the Sequel to Vanquish
Vanquish, as many will remember, was the high-octane third-person shooter that released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Last year, it re-released on Steam with an unlocked framerate. Now it appears that the game is getting a sequel, if the source is to be believed. Moreover, it looks like it will be an Xbox One exclusive.
Originally, Vanquish was developed by Platinum Games, the company that specializes in fast-paced and riveting gameplay mechanics. Before today, the developer stated that it was not opposed to a Vanquish 2. As a matter of fact, it seems they’ve wanted to try their hand at a 2nd entry for some time. Fortunately, the source also claims that they’re the team behind this second installment. That said, we’re taking these rumors with a big fat grain of salt.
Self-proclaimed industry insider, Marcus Sellars, recently posted the message on Discord that revealed Vanquish 2 in development for Xbox One. Unfortunately, we have no inkling of where he received this information. To Sellars’ credit, he accurately stated that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would arrive this year. Then we take into account that Microsoft is investing more in first-party titles, Vanquish 2 as a Microsoft exclusive sounds like a sensible investment. But we’ll see. After the debacle with Scalebound, I find it hard to believe that Platinum Games would enter another publishing deal with Microsoft. That said, we don’t know that the cancellation of Scalebound resulted in a hostile parting between the companies.
If Vanquish 2 is in development by Platinum Games, we won’t see the same hand that guided the first installment. Director Shinji Mikami has since created his own studio in Tango Gameworks, the team behind The Evil Within. Stay tuned to find out if there’s any truth to these rumors. Until then and beyond,
Happy gaming.
