Now, You Don’t Have to Grind 40 -60 Hours
Within the past 24 hours, publisher EA has been met with backlash for the price of in-game rewards in Star Wars Battlefront II. It’s quite amazing, really; in a relatively short time frame, employees have been threatened, the company posted the most downvoted Reddit thread in history, and—without a doubt—someone somewhere got hurt. Thousands of hate-filled comments, posts, and videos later, EA has responded with a change to the game.
According to a new blog post, EA is cutting the cost of Star Wars Battlefront II heroes by 75%. Initially, the most expensive of these heroes, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, cost 60,000 in-game credits each. Earlier, a Reddit user crunched the numbers and posted the estimated time needed to acquire the 60,000 credits. The results ultimately enraged the community and prompted a response from EA that angered even more people. Which leads us to the following; here’s EA’s latest response and promise:
“Making games great comes from regular tuning. As one example, today we’re making a substantial change based on what we’ve seen during the Play First trial. There’s been a lot of discussion around the amount of in-game credits (and time) it takes to unlock some of our heroes, especially Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Unlocking a hero is a great accomplishment in the game, something we want players to have fun earning. We used data from the beta to help set those levels, but it’s clear that more changes were needed.
“So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.”
Again, EA reiterated their constant consideration of feedback. With that said, Star Wars Battlefront II will be an ever-changing experience. Out of the many changes the game shall witness, the reduction in credit cost is a change the company will implement immediately and before launch. So, expect better hero prices when the game arrives on November 17.
Further, EA has a Reddit AMA scheduled for this Wednesday. Key members of the dev team will be present, so it may serve the best time to voice further concerns. Will you be participating? Comment your thoughts on this series of events.
