Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Should Be Another Cornerstone Hit for Nintendo
So far, Nintendo’s two biggest games for the Switch are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While the newest Mario Kart has been doing fabulous so far in terms of sales and reviews, analysts are pretty sure things are only going to get better for Nintendo’s flagship racer.
According to one analyst, Atul Goyal, “this is not just any ordinary success.” Goyal believes that the Nintendo Switch version of Mario Kart 8 is “on a different scale altogether” in terms of how successful the game is going to be in the long run. This game’s initial sales rankings are comparable to that of Mario Kart for the Wii, long since considered the pinnacle of sales for the franchise. That installment of the series sold a total of around 37 million copies. Goyal’s expert opinion puts the newest Kart game in contention for the top-selling racing game of all time.
These are fairly rosy estimates. Nintendo has been doing well this quarter, with console and game sales working to correct last generation’s failures. If Goyal is on the right track, then Nintendo is looking to eclipse the Wii, not just the Wii U, in terms of lifetime sales. That’s a lofty goal considering how many records that console broke for the Japanese gaming giant. Time will tell if Nintendo is up to the challenge.
