Xbox Panel at PAX East Talks Plans, Praises Phil Spencer, and Honors Competition

A Little Bit of Insight into Where Xbox and Microsoft Currently Lie

Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb and posse, Digital Storytelling Lead Jeff Rubenstein and HoloLens Executive Producer Laura Massey, were present at PAX east to answer a cadre of questions posed by fans. Fortunately, they had just enough to say about Xbox Play Anywhere and the Xbox Store.

In sum, more games are coming to Xbox Play Anywhere. Phil Spencer and the team are working to bring more games for multiple devices, giving gamers the opportunity to play where and as often as they like. Alas, Hryb could confirm little else beyond the fact that more will be shown at E3.

Additionally, we learn that another Xbox One Elite Controller is on the design roadmap. Because of the success of the Gears of War 4 controller, it seems the accessories team is brainstorming the next possibility and “trying to figure out what the next one could be.” Perhaps a controller based off another first-party title; we do have Crackdown 3 on the way, a game Hryb teased by saying it had “really cool things.” He said as much after talking with General Manager of Publishing Shannon Loft. It has “ambitions” that developers will be able to showcase at E3. All eyes are on Microsoft for June’s big presentation.

In talking about Xbox’s progress and goals, Massey was keen on delivering due praises to head Phil Spencer, saying his receptiveness to feedback has been imperative to progress. His part as one of the best leaders of the division is why the company’s prospects look bright.

Yet, in the same sitting, Rubenstein and Hryb couldn’t help but compliment the success of competitors. As gestures of gaming solidarity, they delivered due praise to the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Rubenstein even pulled out his Switch during the panel, showing off his fandom. Then he declared that devs over at Guerrilla games did a “bang up job” with their new IP.

We patiently await what Phil Spencer and company might reveal at E3. Whether or not they’ll grease our palms with more info before then, time will tell. But stick around COGconnected for the latest news as it comes. Until next time, happy gaming.
