The Dead Are Calling in Signal Veil
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if classic survival horror collided with a creepy 90s anime, Signal Veil might be worth keeping an eye on. Tokyo-based publisher Serafini Productions and Chilean indie studio Time Hunters have revealed the third-person survival horror game, complete with its first trailer.
In the game, players step into the shoes of Aki Mizuno, a teenage girl searching for her missing mother. Before disappearing, her mother leaves Aki an old cellphone with a strange ability: it reacts to spirits that nobody else can see. Aki soon finds herself investigating the disturbing disappearances taking place inside Nishikawa High School, where buried memories and supernatural threats begin to blur together.
Signal Veil combines the fixed-camera tension of classic survival horror games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill with a distinctive 90s anime-inspired visual style. The game also draws from psychological horror anime, creating an unsettling world where things can change when Aki’s sanity starts to deteriorate.
Combat won’t simply be about shooting everything in sight. Ammunition, medicine, and mystical weapons are limited, forcing players to observe each spirit and carefully choose when to fight. Aki’s supernatural phone can detect entities through vibrations, static, and visual distortions, while its flash can stun enemies and its camera can reveal hidden clues. Players will also need to perform ritual-like sequences to permanently purge spirits.
Signal Veil is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. With a haunted phone as your only guide, Nishikawa High School already sounds like the kind of place you absolutely shouldn’t explore alone.
