Targem Games, the studio behind Crossout, is stepping into a very different kind of adventure with Demidoff Corp, a new 2D Metroidvania that blends Souls-like combat with the strange and mysterious world of Ural folklore.
The game draws heavily from the folk tales of renowned Ural writer Pavel Bazhov, with its characters and creatures inspired by figures from his stories. At the center of the narrative is also a real historical figure, industrialist Nikita Demidov, who founded the influential Demidov dynasty.
In Demidoff Corp, players will explore a mystical version of the historical Ural region while investigating the secrets hidden inside Demidov’s Tower. The journey will take players through icy mining tunnels, mysterious lakes, dense forests, and sprawling estates filled with long-buried mysteries.
The story takes an unusual turn by putting players in control of a fluffy retired royal agent. Sent on an urgent mission, the unlikely hero must travel across the region, investigate the strange events surrounding Demidov’s estates, and report the truth back to the Tsar. However, uncovering someone else’s secrets is rarely a safe job.
Targem Games has also opened a playtest for Demidoff Corp, giving players an early opportunity to experience its challenging combat and mysterious world. There is no content embargo, meaning participants can freely stream gameplay, create videos, and publish reviews.
With its unusual mix of Russian history, Ural folklore, and Souls-like action, Demidoff Corp certainly has an intriguing identity. Now, we’ll have to see whether this fluffy agent can survive what lurks beneath the surface.
