Enter City of Abbadox in Evil Moon: Unspoken
If you’ve ever wondered what a Metroidvania mixed with a classic boomer shooter would look like, Evil Moon: Unspoken might have the answer. Swedish solo developer Niklas Hallin has revealed that the first-person action game will bring its unusual blend of exploration, gunplay, and retro-inspired visuals to Steam Next Fest on 19 October in a demo.
Set in the cursed city of Abbadox, the game follows Siléncia, a devoted nun bound by a vow of silence. A mysterious curse known as the Malediction of the Moon allows only silent sisters to move freely through the city, leaving Siléncia with little choice but to pick up a gun and fight her way through hordes of the Moon’s acolytes.
The solo developer Niklas Hallin describes the project as an attempt to capture the ambitious first-person exploration of games like Metroid Prime while using the visual style and fast-paced combat of a boomer shooter.
The developer previously worked on the compact 2D Metroidvania series Alruna, and Evil Moon: Unspoken brings that same focus on unconventional level design into a fully 3D first-person setting.
Players will get their first chance to experience the game during Steam’s October Next Fest 2026. The demo will feature the opening area of Abbadox, along with Siléncia’s blaster pistol, a rosary bead grappling hook, and the first boss battle in the cemetery.
With a gun-toting nun, creepy streets, and a grappling hook made from rosary beads, Evil Moon: Unspoken certainly isn’t your typical Metroidvania. It could be one of the stranger and more interesting demos to check out during Next Fest.
